Background

The Japan Logistics Management Association (JLA) and the Japanese Council of Logistics Management (JCLM), each with 22 years of experience, merged to establish the Japan Institute of Logistics Systems (JILS) to promote efficiency and advancements in logistics.

Objective

A key challenge for our social economy in the 21st century is to develop systems that can lead to more comfortable and affluent lifestyles, working within the realities of advancing globalization, the continued spread of advanced information networks, and growing concerns over the environment.

Central to this effort is the creation of a comprehensive integrated supply chain that permits the smoothest interaction possible between demand and supply. This is the function of logistics systems, designed to control the flow of goods from procurement and production through sales and distribution and finally to disposal and recovery.

Today the development of increasingly advanced and efficient logistics systems is a focus of keen interest around the world, not only from the angle of business strategy but also from the perspective of the evolution of social systems.

The Japan Institute of Logistics Systems (JILS) is a national center established in 1992 to respond to the abovementioned needs of society in a new era. With this goal in mind, JILS actively pursues such programs as research, training, and personnel exchange at both the domestic and international levels.

Features

JILS is a national organization specializing in logistics, and has full cooperation from governmental, industrial, and academic fields. We are a nonprofit organization approved by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry and the Ministry of Land Infrastructure, and Transport.

JILS has created comprehensive curriculums based on industrial standards and contemporary needs in logistics, and offers courses that systematically develop human resources.

JILS carries out comprehensive research and investigations. We survey and research contemporary topics in logistics from a multifaceted perspective.

JILS disseminates information nationally based on its extensive experience in rationalizing and improving logistics systems. We support and encourage valuable information exchange in Japan through various study groups and conferences.

JILS collects and maintains valuable data and information that we disseminate through journals utilizing our extensive database.

JILS promotes active international exchange with foreign organizations in the field. To meet the new era of globalization head on, we regularly dispatch survey teams and hold international conferences.
